Bear market

Bear market (“bear market”) is a period of sustained price declines in the market, accompanied by participant pessimism, lower trading volumes, and capital outflows. The name comes from the image of a bear striking downward with its paw.

The generally accepted threshold is a price decline of 20% or more from a recent high. In cryptocurrency markets, bear markets have historically been accompanied by Bitcoin declines of 70–85% from peak values.

ℹ️ Context

A bear market is a normal part of the market cycle. Historically, every bear market in cryptocurrency has eventually been followed by a recovery, although the timing and depth of recovery are unpredictable.
